Goal of the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) project currently under development in Czech Republic (http://www.eli-beams.eu/), Romania (http://www.eli-np.ro/) and Hungary (http://www.eli-alps.hu/) is to develop in these countries large, unique research labs equipped with high-power pulsed lasers. Such lasers are valuable research tools in numerous disciplines of modern science and technology.
More than a century after the discovery of X rays, the effects of ionising radiation are still misunderstood. In particular, a better knowledge of individual radiosensitivity could lead to a better prediction of radio induced risk of cancer and acute reactions after radiotherapy.
Brief history of fractals will be presented. The first examples of fractals: the Cantor collection (1883), the Peano curve (1890), the Sierpiński rug (1915). The two definitions of geometric object dimensions: the topologic approach and the Hausdorff approach. Mathematic definition of fractals. The Pierre Fatou and Gaston Julia works on iterations of analytic functions. The Mandelbrot collection (1980) and how the presented paintings have been created.
How the climate machine is functioning? How can we distinguish natural climate processes from man made effects? What can be said on the climate in the perspective of several decades/hundreds of years and how does this relate to climate changes in the past epochs on Earth? Physics has been providing some sound grounds to answer such quastions for many years. The lecture will shortly show what is known well, which processes are known only sufficiently, and where are the largests gaps in scientific understanding of the climate-raleted processes.
Subjective lecturer's opinions on the current status and perspectives for the Polish Nuclear Power Programme (PPEJ) will be presented. Political, social, economic, industrial, and R&D aspects will be discussed.
